BIAB is a flexible strengthening gel that helps weak natural nails grow, while a gel manicure adds colour and shine without structure. Atelier 10 Salon in DIFC offers both BIAB overlays and gel manicures.
If your natural nails are thin, peeling or struggle to grow, BIAB has probably appeared on your radar. Here's how it compares with a standard gel manicure.
What a gel manicure is
A gel manicure applies colour gel cured under lamp for a glossy, chip-resistant finish that typically lasts two to three weeks. It's a brilliant everyday option, but it doesn't add meaningful structure to a weak nail.
What BIAB adds
BIAB, 'builder in a bottle', is a thicker, flexible gel applied as a strengthening layer over the natural nail. It acts like a protective shield, supporting fragile nails so they can grow without snapping. You can wear it sheer for a natural look or add colour on top.
Choosing between them
If your nails are healthy and you simply want colour, a gel manicure is perfect. If your nails bend, peel or break before they can grow, BIAB's added structure is the better investment. Many clients use BIAB as a base to grow their nails out, then switch back to gel once they're stronger.
